Reportage in a laboratory which develops therapeutic vaccinations to treat small-cell lung cancer, using optimised cryptic peptide technology. These vaccinations are intended to treat cancer by stimulating the immune system so it can recognise and attack cancer cells, without harming normal cells. They target over-expressed antigens present in tumourous cells (universal tumour antigens). The lab grows T lymphocytes and dendritic cells. Dendritic cells are filled with optimised cryptic peptides (antigens), then put into contact with T cells so they become responsive to the antigen. The activated T lymphocytes are then able to target the cancer cells.

Before using for substance testing the tissue are matured in a cell culture environment. The lab receives blood samples from people who have, and havent had the vaccine. The blood cells are cultured then brought into contact with the antigenic peptide. The tubes are then centrifuged to collect the cell residue and extract the RNA from the cells. The RNA allows the researchers to discover whether the cells (vaccinated or not) express the necessary genes to produce immune response proteins. The vaccines efficiency can then be gauged.

A Kennedy Space Center employee collects samples from a water tank, filled with green dye, for a biological study in the Florida spaceports Neil Armstrong Operations and Checkout Building on Nov. 13, 2019. Two tanks have recently returned to Kennedy after spending the last five years on the International Space Station for an experiment to study slosh, or the movement of water, in a zero-gravity environment to help engineers predict the movement of propellant in rocket tanks. With the slosh experiment now concluded, the tanks are being utilized to determine if there is, or was, any microbial growth within them. The results will help NASA determine whether clean water can be stored in space for long-duration missions, an essential component to keeping astronauts safe and healthy as the agency prepares for missions to the Moon and beyond to Mars.

The implant has 5 biosensors, which measure the density of various molecules, a temperature sensor and a PH sensor. It transmits real time data via Bluetooth. Researchers can select the molecules they wish to detect on each separate biosensor (eg. Glucose or cholesterol). The implant is positioned according to the pathology to be monitored. A researcher is developing a larger version of the biosensors, she places a nanotube carbon solution and a specific enzyme on the nano-materials, which allow the desired molecule to be measured.
