Pulmonary tuberculosis. Koch's bacilli colonize the lungs and develop, destroying tissues, forming foci (caseum). These foci calcify, forming caverns, in which the bacteria multiply, and which persist after recovery. In patients for whom the disease has been declared, the bacilli present in the lungs can be expelled during expiration and thus contaminate other people. This image is part of a series on pulmonary pathologies.
