"Sheffield on cutlery means quality in any part of the world. Universal post-war shortages have resulted in bulging order, books in Britain's steel city, where 98% of her cutlery is made. That is only half of a prosperity story. In 1935, the monthly average of knives, forks and spoons was 7,225,000 pieces, of which 525,000 went for export. Now, despite the fact that the Sheffield cutlers, whilst making a number of very utility lines for the services, turned over most of their capacity to war equipment nothing like cutlery, already that monthly average is 5,000,000 pieces of which over half are for export. YOKOSUKA, Japan (April 19, 2022) - Operations Specialist Seaman Jacob Dess, from West Palm Beach, Fla., applies lagging paste to a pipe aboard U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) April 19, 2022 in Yokosuka, Japan. Lagging is used as thermal insulation for pipes and bulkheads inside the ship. Blue Ridge is the oldest operational ship in the Navy and, as 7th Fleet command ship, actively works to foster relationships with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

Cordite, the standard propellent for British rifles and guns, results from a specially prepared mixture of guncotton and Nitroglycerin generally, it is in the form of thin, honey-colored sticks or cords.
