A large landslide deposit fills the bottom third of the image, and another landslide deposit is visible near the top of the image. The radial grooves on the top of a landslide are a common feature formed by the downslope movement of the landslide materials. A field of dunes is visible in the center of the image. Ganges Chasma is part of the Valles Marineris chasma system, but is north of the main section of canyons. Ganges Chasma is 584km (363 miles) long. The Martian Limb

This is the first 360-degree panorama in color of the Gale Crater landing site taken by NASA's Curiosity rover. The panorama was made from thumbnail versions of images taken by the Mast Camera.

Candor Chasma is one of the largest canyons that make up Valles Marineris. It is approximately 810 km long (503 miles) and has is divided into two regions eastern and western Candor. Candor is located south of Ophir Chasma and north of Melas Chasma. The border with Melas Chasma contains many large landslide deposits. The floor of Candor Chasma includes a variety of landforms, including layered deposits, dunes, landslide deposits and steep sided cliffs and mesas. Many forms of erosion have shaped Candor Chasma. On Feb. 24, 2005, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity had driven about 73 meters (240 feet) and reached the eastern edge of a small crater dubbed 'Naturaliste,' 3D glasses are necessary to view this image.

This is a false color image of Rabe Crater. In this combination of filters blue typically means basaltic sand. This VIS image crosses the entire crater and demonstrates how extensive the dunes are on the floor of Rabe Crater. Rabe Crater is 108 km (67 miles) across. Craters of similar size often have flat floors. Rabe Crater has some areas of flat floor, but also has a large complex pit occupying a substantial part of the floor. The interior fill of the crater is thought to be layered sediments created by wind and or water action. The pit is eroded into this material. The eroded materials appear to have stayed within the crater forming a large sand sheet with surface dune forms as well as individual dunes where the crater floor is visible. ISS026-E-027303 (16 Feb. 2011) --- The Expedition 26 crew member aboard the International Space Station who snapped this photograph of the Ariane 5 rocket, just after lift off from Europes Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, and the rest of the crew have a special interest in the occurrence. ESAs second Automated Transfer Vehicle, Johannes Kepler, was just a short time earlier (21:50 GMT or 18:50 Kourou time on Feb. 16, 2011) launched toward its targeted low orbit and eventual link-up with the ISS. The unmanned supply ship is planned to deliver critical supplies and reboost the space station during its almost four-month mission.

The E. coli AntiMicrobial Satellite (EcAMSat) mission will investigate space microgravity effects on the antibiotic resistance of E. coli, a bacterial pathogen responsible for urinary tract infection in humans and animals.

S126-E-008143 (18 Nov. 2008) --- An extravehicular activity (EVA) tool bag drifts away from the International Space Station during the mission's first scheduled spacewalk for STS-126. About halfway into the spacewalk, one of the grease guns that astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper (out of frame), mission specialist, was preparing to use on the Solar Alpha Rotary Joint released some Braycote grease into her crew lock bag, which is the tool bag the spacewalkers use during their activities. As she was cleaning the inside of the bag, it drifted away from her and toward the aft and starboard portion of the International Space Station. Inside the bag were two grease guns, a scraper, a scraper debris container, several wipes in a caddy and tethers.

Lyot Crater and Northern Deuteronilus Mensae, Mars, from Mars Global Surveyor

This VIS image shows part of Meridiani Planum. Meridiani Planum has been the home of the Opportunity MER rover since January 2004. The rover was last heard from at the start of the large dust storms during the summer of 2018. After many months trying to reestablish communications, the mission was declared over in February 2019. The rover covered over 25 miles of travel and provided new insights into the geology of Mars. Opportunity's original mission length was just 90 days, but it lasted 15 years! Good night Opportunity.
