Contractors with JMJ Construction of New Lisbon, Wis., prepare World War II-era buildings in the 1600 block on the cantonment area Feb. 10, 2023, to be moved to other areas of the cantonment area at Fort McCoy, Wis. The contractor is relocating and repairing four barracks buildings that are currently located in the 1600 block to alternate locations in the 1700 and 1800 blocks, according to the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works. The plan is to relocate the buildings to the new locations before the ground thaws, then lift them onto the new foundations and complete the remaining work by summer 2023.

A portion of the Fresno Air National Guard, Calif., base fuel storage system still remains under construction and is expected to reach completion October 2022. The $20 million construction project will remove the underground fuel storage system and replace them with above-ground storage containers.

The $18.8 million project was awarded to L.S. Black Constructors, which is the contractor who built the first barracks building at Fort McCoy, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resident Office at Fort McCoy. The new contract was awarded Sept. 29, 2020, and the notice to proceed was issued Oct. 28, 2020. The contract duration is scheduled for completion in 780 calendar days. Currently contract completion is scheduled for December 2022. The barracks is different than the traditional barracks located throughout the installation. The new mobile launcher will be the base for the Ares rockets to launch the Orion crew exploration vehicle and the cargo vehicle. The base is being made lighter than space shuttle mobile launcher platforms so the crawler-transporter can pick up the added load of the 345-foot tower and taller rocket. When the structural portion of the new mobile launcher is complete, umbilicals, access arms, communications equipment and command/control equipment will be installed.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - At NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida, a new 12-inch water main is being installed as part of a water/wastewater revitalizing plan. The main will provide water to the area around the shuttle landing facility's Landing Aids Control Building and fire station.NASAs space shuttle runway is a unique national asset designed to enable the recovery of the agencys fleet of space shuttle orbiters. The shuttle landing facility is a single, 15,000-foot long concrete runway oriented to the southeast and northwest. Air traffic control is provided from a control tower built to FAA standards. Fire and emergency response services are also available from an onsite facility.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Workers of Superior Solar LLC in Longwood, Fla., begin to install more than 300 solar panels on the roof of the Propellants North Administrative and Maintenance Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Each panel, built in Sharp Corp.'s Memphis, Tenn., plant, will produce 235 watts of clean energy. The green facility in Kennedy's Launch Complex 39 area will have a two-story administrative building to house managers, mechanics and technicians who fuel spacecraft at Kennedy adjacent to a single-story shop to store cryogenic fuel transfer equipment. The facility is striving to qualify for the U.S. Green Building Councils Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification. If successful, it will be the first NASA facility to achieve this highest of LEED ratings after it is completed. The facility was designed for NASA by Jones Edmunds and Associates. H. W. Davis Construction is the construction contractor.

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- At Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, the first stage of a United Launch Alliance Delta II that will carry the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System Preparatory Project (NPP) satellite into space has arrived at NASA's Launch Complex-2. The vehicle will undergo initial testing at the United Launch Alliance Delta Mission Checkout Facility. NPP will be positioned 512 miles above the Earth's surface and will orbit about 16 times each day to observe nearly the entire globe. The NPP mission for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is to measure Earth's atmospheric and sea surface temperatures, humidity sounding, land and ocean biological activity, and cloud and aerosol properties.

A new $7.03 million shipping, receiving, and mail freight facility is shown July 22, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis. The contract for the project called for the construction of a pre-engineered metal building that has an estimated 19,500 square feet of space. Projects like this align with Fort McCoys long-range strategic planning objectives, including to sustain and modernize Fort McCoys cantonment, range complex, strategic mobility, physical security, quality of life, and information technology infrastructure.
