Detachment 101, an enigmatic Allied intelligence and special operations unit during World War II, played a pivotal role in the Burmese theater. Operating deep in the jungles of Burma, their mission was multi-faceted, encompassing guerrilla warfare, espionage, and sabotage against Japanese forces. Comprising a diverse group of individuals, from OSS agents to indigenous fighters, they effectively disrupted Japanese supply lines, gathered critical intelligence, and supported resistance movements.

Royal Air Force Bomber Command, 1939-1941. Wing Commander Richard Kellett, Commanding Officer of No. 149 Squadron RAF, seated at his desk at Mildenhall, Cambridgeshire. On 18 December 1939, Kellett led a force of 24 Vickers Wellingtons drawn from Nos. 9, 37 and 149 Squadrons to search for enemy shipping targets in the Schillig Roads off Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The Wellingtons were detected by a German radar station on Wangerooge Island while still on their approach flight, and were subsequently intercepted by fighters. Nine Wellingtons were shot down, three ditched into the sea and a further three were forced to seek other landing grounds as they were too badly damaged to return. Kellett was one of those shot down and became a prisoner-of-war. In January 1940 (when this picture was released) he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his leadership during this disastrous raid which, together with that of 14 December, had a major effect on future British bombing policy.

The Premier, Mr. Cahill, said the uniform did not impress him. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. C.J. Delaney, said he would not condemn the uniform or praise it. He asked the conference to defer any decision until the department had made a through survey of a light hopsack uniform. April 19, 1955.

Furstner, Minister of Marine during the Second World War, 1940 - 1945 photograph The staff of the Dutch Navy was located in London during the Second World War led by Admiraal Furstner (1887-1970). On May 14, 1940, Vice-Admiraal Johannes Theodorus Furstner left for London from the Netherlands. On May 19, he was appointed commander of the Dutch Sea and Marine Air Forces who were in Allied territory. The commander was actually only involved in personnel policy, administration, organization, maintenance and new construction. The operational management was with the English Royal Navy. On July 27, 1941, Furnster became Minister of Marine in the war cabinet and commander. J.M. De Booy Minister of Marine and Scheepvaart. Furstner remained the commander. During the Second World War, the staff of the Dutch Marine was located in London led by Admiraal Furstner (1887-1970). On May 14, 1940, vice-admiral Johannes Theodorus Furstner left from the Netherlands to London. On May 19th he was appointed commander of the Dutch sea and marine anchor forces who were in Allied territory. The commander was actually only involved in personnel policy, administration, organization, maintenance and new construction. The operational guidance was at the English Royal Navy. On July 27, 1941, Furnster became Marine Minister in the war cabinet and commander. J.M was on February 23, 1945 The Booy Minister of Marine and Shipping. Furstner remained the commander. . 3 Battalion (attached 2 Battalion), Royal Sussex Regiment Second Lieutenant Barthorp, the only son of an Essex family, was educated at Winchester School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a keen huntsman, becoming Master of Eastern Counties Otter Hounds in 1914. He enlisted on the outbreak of war in 1914, receiving his commission in August. On 11 January 1915, Lt Barthrop was posted to the same sector of the Western Front as Robert Graves (author of Goodbye to All That) but was killed in action, aged 22, within days of arriving in the front line. On 29 January 1915, his battalion came under heavy attack at the Brickfields, Cuinchy and a German sniper shot Lt Barthrop through the head, killing him instantly. Staff quartermaster sergeant Henry Adams of the Royal Army ***** corps was ordered to move from one mess to another. This would have involved him washing with corporals and so he refused. Yesterday he faced a court martial at Bicester, Oxfordshire, on a charge of disobeying the order of his commanding officer. S.Q.M.S.
