NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY SOUDA BAY, Greece (Oct. 19, 2022) Naval Support Activity (NSA) Souda Bay Chief Selects and other NSA Souda Bay personnel participate in a base run on Oct. 19, 2022. NSA Souda Bay is an operational ashore installation which enables and supports U.S., Allied, Coalition, and Partner nation forces to preserve security and stability in the European, African, and Central Command areas of responsibility.

The 165th Airlift Wing members hosted a 9/11 Memorial 5K race on September 10, 2022 at Savannah Air National Guard Base, Georgia to honor those lost as we commemorate the 21st year since the September 11, 2001 attacks. The 5k race gave the military, firefighters, and local community an opportunity to demonstrate their respect and memorialize those who were lost during the attacks on September 11, 2001. Fire fighters from Garden City and Pooler used their fire trucks to hang a large American flag at the starting/finishing line of the race.

(June 14, 2022) - Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) New Student Indoctrination (NSI) midshipman candidates await instruction during a physical training session at Recruit Training Command (RTC), June 14. Upon completion of NSI, the candidates will start their freshman year of the NROTC program at colleges and universities nationwide this fall. NSI is an indoctrination program hosted at RTC, and provides midshipmen with a common military training orientation. NSI provides basic training in five warfighting fundamentals - firefighting, damage control, seamanship, watchstanding and small arms handling and marksmanship - to begin creating basically trained and smartly disciplined future Navy and Marine Corps officers. NROTC is overseen by Commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), Rear Adm. Jennifer S. Couture, which supports naval accessions training for 98 percent of the Navys new officers and enlisted Sailors.

We remembered and honored the @10thMTN Soldiers from Task Force 2-14 by participating in the Mogadishu Mile on September 30, 2022. The original mile was a route taken by Soldiers from a Blackhawk helicopter crash site to a rally point held by the 10th Mountain Division on National Street during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 4, 1993.

NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Poland Soldiers assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division (3-1 ABCT) alongside United Kingdom Army soldiers assigned to The Royal Lancers, Prince of Whales Troop, and the Romanian Sky Guardians participated in a physical fitness competition for morale and enhanced interoperability between the allied nations, which the United Kingdom won, in Bemowo Piskie, Poland, Oct. 21, 2022. The 3-1 ABCT is among other units assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, proudly working alongside NATO allies and regional security partners to provide combat-credible forces to V Corps, America's forward deployed corps in Europe.

Marines with Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and the School of Infantry WestDetachment Hawaii, complete the final stretch of the 2010 Honolulu Marathon, Sunday. For the second year in a row, the Marines hiked the 26.3-mile marathon with boots, camouflage trousers and 65-pound packs to raise money for wounded Marines and sailors at Wounded Warrior Battalion West Detachment Hawaii, on Marine Corps Base Hawaii. “In the end, the wounded warriors were who we were there for,” said Chicago native Sgt. Fernando Camacho, a firefighter with ARFF. “Ultimately, our goal was to raise money for the wounded Marines and sailors, but it didn’t matter how much we did or didn’t raise it was that we were there supporting them.”

The 5K run served to commemorate Makin Islands historical raid, routing enemy forces, gaining valuable intelligence and earning its name in honor of Marine Raider Companies A and B, Second Raider Battalion on Japanese-held Makin Island, in the Gilbert Islands, Aug. 17-18, 1942. Makin Island, flagship of Amphibious Squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th MEU, is currently underway conducting integrated training in the U.S. 3rd fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
