A Scene from the Farce Pefroen met het schaapshoofd (Pefroen and the Sheeps Head) by Cornelius Troost (1696-1750) water colour, 1740. This coloured drawing depicts a scene from a farce. As Lijsje and her lover, Ritsaert, are about to enter the house, she sends her husband, Pefroen, to return a sheeps head to the butchrer. A sheeps head is associated with foolishness. By combining two different scenes from the farce in a single work, Troost made the incident more understandable for the viewer.
