CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Space shuttle Discovery's STS-133 Mission Specialist Tim Kopra prepares to depart NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida in a T-38 training jet. Kopra and his five crewmates will wait until at least Nov. 30 to launch to the International Space Station because a leak was detected at the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate (GUCP) while Discovery's external fuel tank was being loaded for launch on Nov. 5. The GUCP is an attachment point between the external tank and a pipe that carries gaseous hydrogen safely away from the shuttle to the flare stack, where it is burned off. Engineers and managers also will evaluate a crack in the foam on the external tank.During the 11-day mission, STS-133 will deliver the Permanent Multipurpose Module, packed with supplies and critical spare parts, as well as Robonaut 2, to the orbiting laboratory. Discovery, which will fly its 39th mission, is scheduled to be retired following STS-133. This will be the 133rd Space Shuttle Program

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - At the KSC Shuttle Landing Facility, STS-111 Mission Specialist Philippe Perrin, with the French Space Agency, waits for the rest of the crew before departing for Crew Quarters. The crew has arrived to prepare for launch. Mission STS-111, known as Utilization Flight 2, is carrying supplies and equipment to the International Space Station. The payload includes the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Leonardo, the Mobile Base System, which will be installed on the Mobile Transporter to complete the Canadian Mobile Servicing System, or MSS, and a replacement wrist/roll joint for Canadarm 2. The mechanical arm will then have the capability to "inchworm" from the U.S. Lab Destiny to the MSS and travel along the truss to work sites. Also on board will be Expedition 5, traveling to the Station on Space Shuttle Endeavour as the replacement crew for Expedition 4, who will return to Earth aboard the orbiter. STS-132 LAUNCH L-4 CREW ARRIVAL

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - STS-125 Mission Specialist Mike Massimino is ready to practice driving the M-113 armored personnel carrier. The crew members of space shuttle Atlantis' STS-125 mission will each practice driving the M-113 in turn as part of their training on emergency egress procedures. An M-113 will be available to transport the crew to safety in the event of a contingency on the pad before their launch. The crew is at NASA's Kennedy Space Center for a dress launch rehearsal called the terminal countdown demonstration test, or TCDT. It provides astronauts and ground crews with an opportunity to participate in various simulated countdown activities, including equipment familiarization, emergency training and a simulated launch countdown. The STS-125 mission aboard space shuttle Atlantis to service NASAs Hubble Space Telescope is targeted to launch Oct. 10.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- -- After landing at the KSC Shuttle Landing Facility to prepare for launch April 4, STS-110 Commander Michael Bloomfield comments about the upcoming mission for the media. Mission STS-110 is the 13th assembly flight to the International Space Station. During four planned spacewalks, crew members will install the S0 Integrated Truss Structure (ITS), centerpiece of the orbiting International Space Station (ISS), at the center of the 10-truss, girderlike structure that will ultimately extend the length of a football field on the ISS. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- After his arrival at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, STS-122 Mission Specialist Stanley Love tells the media he is grateful to the shuttle workers for their efforts in getting Atlantis ready for flight. The crew's arrival signals the imminent launch of space shuttle Atlantis' STS-122 mission, at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 7. This will be the third launch attempt for the mission. Some of the tank's ECO sensors gave failed readings during propellant tanking for launch attempts on Dec. 6 and Dec. 9, subsequently scrubbing further attempts until the cause could be found and repairs made. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- At the Shuttle Landing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, space shuttle Endeavour's STS-134 Commander Mark Kelly is on hand for the arrival of the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, or AMS.AMS, a state-of-the-art particle physics detector, is designed to operate as an external module on the International Space Station. It will use the unique environment of space to study the universe and its origin by searching for dark matter. In the days leading up to their launch to the International Space Station, Boe and his crew members will check the fit of their launch-and-entry suits, review launch-day procedures, receive weather briefings and remain medically quarantined to prevent sickness. This will be the second launch attempt for Discovery's crew, following a scrub in November 2010 due to a hydrogen gas leak at the ground umbilical carrier plate (GUCP) as well as modifications to the external fuel tank's intertank support beams, called stringers.Scheduled to lift off Feb. 24 at 4:50 p.m. EST, Discovery and its crew will deliver the Permanent Multipurpose Module, packed with supplies and critical spare parts, as well as Robonaut 2, the dexterous humanoid astronaut helper, to the orbiting outpost.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- Astronaut Donald Pettit, a member of the Expedition 6 crew, arrives at KSC for Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test activities. Expedition 6 will fly on Space Shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station on mission STS-113. They will relieve and replace the Expedition 5 crew. Endeavour will also be transporting the Port 1 (P1) truss segment to the Station. STS-113 is scheduled to launch Nov. 10, 2002.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- The STS-117 crew arrives at NASA's Kennedy Space Center to take part in the Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT), a preparation for the launch March 15 to the International Space Station. The STS-124 mission ended with space shuttle Discovery's landing on Runway 15 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, ending a 14-day mission to the International Space Station. Discovery's main landing gear touched down at 11:15:19 a.m. EDT on Runway 15. The nose landing gear touched down at 11:15:30 a.m. and wheel stop was at 11:16:19 a.m. The mission completed 5.7 million miles. The STS-124 mission delivered the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's large Japanese Pressurized Module and its remote manipulator system to the space station.

The 11-day mission will require grasping the satellite with a robotic arm in order for the crew to perform the tasks during five spacewalks. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -- STS-113 Commander James Wetherbee makes a brief statement upon his arrival at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility to prepare for launch. STS-113 is the 16th American assembly flight to the International Space Station. The primary objective of the mission is bringing the Expedition 6 crew to the Station and returning the Expedition 5 crew to Earth. The major task of the mission is delivery of the Port 1 (P1) Integrated Truss Assembly, which will be attached to the port side of the S0 truss. Three spacewalks are planned to install and activate the truss and its associated equipment. Launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour on mission STS-113 is targeted for no earlier than Nov. 22 between 7 and 11 p.m. EST.

Waiting his turn to drive the M-113 is STS-92 Mission Specialist Michael Lopez-Alegria. Part of emergency egress training during Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test (TCDT) activities, the tracked vehicle could be used by the crew in the event of an emergency at the pad during which the crew must make a quick exit from the area. The TCDT also provides simulated countdown exercises and opportunities to inspect the mission payloads in the orbiters payload bay. STS-92 is scheduled to launch Oct. 5 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on the fifth flight to the International Space Station. Pilot Kevin Ford addresses the media on hand to witness their arrival. Ford is making his first spaceflight. The crew has returned to Kennedy to prepare for launch on Aug. 25 at 1:36 a.m. EDT. The 13-day mission will deliver a new crew member and 33,000 pounds of equipment to the International Space Station. The equipment includes science and storage racks, a freezer to store research samples, a new sleeping compartment and the COLBERT treadmill.
