120622-N-QQ884-195 EAST CHINA SEA (June 22, 2012) Ships from the USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force and the Republic of Korea navy are underway during a trilateral exercise. The exercise included integrated helicopters operations, visit, board, search and seizure exchanges and demonstration, communication links, interoperability, dynamic ship maneuvers and liaison officer exchanges. The trilateral events improve interoperability, readiness and the capability to respond quickly to various situations in the region, ranging from disaster relief to maritime security activities.

PHILIPPINE SEA (Feb. 22, 2016) Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Murasame-class destroyer JDS Samidare (DD-106) receives an advanced biofuel mixture from the fast combat support ship USNS Rainier (T-AOE 7) during a replenishment-at-sea. Providing a ready force supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific, the John C. Stennis Strike Group is operating as part of the Great Green Fleet on a regularly scheduled 7th Fleet deployment.

230215-N-KU796-1220 SOUTH CHINA SEA (Feb. 15, 2023) Ships from Nimitz Carrier Strike Group (NIMCSG) and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (MKI ARG), with embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), operate in formation in the South China Sea. NIMCSG and MKI ARG, with embarked 13th MEU, are conducting combined expeditionary strike force (ESF) operations, demonstrating unique high-end war fighting capability, maritime superiority, power projection and readiness. Operations include integrated training designed to advance interoperability between the two groups while simultaneously demonstrating the U.S. commitment to our alliances and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region. NIMCSG is in U.S. 7th Fleet conducting routine operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

SOUTH CHINA SEA (June 20, 2013) A rigid-hull inflatable boat from the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) takes a visit, board, search and seizure team to the Malaysian frigate KD Jabat during a compliant boarding exercise. Freedom is in Malaysia participating in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) 2013. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timore Leste.

SEA OF JAPAN (Oct 6, 2022) Ships from the U.S., Japan and Republic of Korea conducted a trilateral ballistic missile defense exercise in the Sea of Japan, Oct. 6. The ships included Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) (not pictured), part of the USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers JS Chokai (DDG 176) and JS Ashigara (DDG 178) (not pictured), and Republic of Korea Navy destroyer ROKS Sejong the Great (DDG 991) and demonstrated the strength of the trilateral relationship and the interoperability of U.S., Japanese and ROK collective forces. Chancellorsville provided air defense to the units as they conducted the ballistic missile exercise, which includes, detecting, tracking, and intercepting simulated targets, as well as coordination, communication, and information-sharing between the three countries.
