The sea-fastening phase secures the ships in place for long-distance ocean transits. Warrior will be heading to Commander, Fleet Activities Sasebo, Japan, and Pioneer will be heading to Naval Station San Diego.

Freedom is the first of two littoral combat ships designed to operate in shallow water environments to counter threats in coastal regions. The ship is still under contractor trials and after completing this maintenance period Freedom will go through her final contractor trials and begin fleet operations.

At pier 8 in the Port of Pusan, Republic of Korea two US Navy cruiser's, the USS CHANCELERVILLE and the USS MOBILE BAY, give tours to the local nationals on Oct. 14, 1998. The cruiser's originate from Yokosuka, Japan and came to port in Korea for liberty leave and some rest and relaxation.
