New Orleans, part of the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group, along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The United States, with Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and Royal Canadian Navy are participating in multi-lateral exercises in the South China Sea in support of the Royal Australian Navys regional presence deployment. PACIFIC OCEAN (July 14, 2022) As Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Winnipeg (FFH 338) sails away, U.S. Navy Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) sails alongside Royal Australian Navy auxiliary oiler replenishment ship HMAS Supply (A 195) for a fueling-at-sea during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, three submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29-Aug 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The worlds largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the worlds oceans. Chancellorsville is forward-deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific and is assigned to Commander, Task Force 70, a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of its allies and partners in the region.

CARIBBEAN SEA (Sept. 22, 2012) The Mk 45/5-inch lightweight gun is fired from the forecastle of the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio (CG 68) during a gunnery exercise for UNITAS Atlantic 2012. UNITAS Atlantic 2012 is an annual naval exercise hosted by the U.S. 4th Fleet and consists of naval forces from 13 different partner nations.

Members of the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, and Japan Self-Defense Force conduct operations at sea alongside the Royal Navy (United Kingdom), Royal Australian Navy, and Royal Canadian Navy during Keen Sword 23 in the Pacific Ocean, Nov. 14, 2022. Keen Sword is a biennial training event that exercises the combined capabilities and lethality developed between 3d Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force and the JSDF. This bilateral field-training exercise between the U.S. military and the JSDF strengthens interoperability and combat readiness of the U.S.-Japan Alliance.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Workers on the deck of Freedom Star, one of NASA's solid rocket booster retrieval ships docked at Port Canaveral, Florida, prepare the vessel prior to sailing. Freedom Star will be in position to recover the spent boosters after space shuttle Discovery's STS-133 launch.The shuttles two solid rocket booster casings and associated flight hardware are recovered in the Atlantic Ocean after every launch by Liberty Star and Freedom Star. The boosters impact the Atlantic about seven minutes after liftoff and the retrieval ships are stationed about 10 miles from the impact area at the time of splashdown. After the spent segments are processed, they will be transported to Utah, where they will be refurbished and stored, if needed.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (April 9, 2022) - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) conducts a live-fire exercise from a Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWS), April 9, 2022. Porter, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is currently in the U.S. 2nd Fleet area of operations to conduct routine certifications and training.

PHILIPPINE SEA (Sept. 13, 2016) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) conducts a live fire of a harpoon missile, with the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), as part of a sink exercise (SINKEX) during Valiant Shield 2016. Valiant Shield is a biennial, U.S. only, field-training exercise with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This is the sixth exercise in the Valiant Shield series that began in 2006. Benfold is on patrol with Carrier Strike Group Five in the Philippine Sea supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

Sea of Japan (May 12, 2022) Expeditionary sea base ship USS Miguel Keith (ESB 5) and Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1634 simulate refueling during Exercise Noble Vanguard. Rafting operations extend the operational stay time of smaller units and provide non-traditional logistics in remote areas.
