Saved From North Atlantic - A Lifeboat, manned by volunteers lies in the lee of the U.S. Army Hospital Transport Charles A. Stafford, with part of the 31 crew members of the Portuguese fishing schooner Maria Carlota, which foundered 640 miles southeast of newfoundland in the North Atlantic, Nov. 4. The Stafford steamed 152 miles after receiving a relayed radio distress signal from the schooner and the volunteer lifeboat crew rescued all 31 crew members and a cat, a Mascot.
