220712-N-RG360-1031PEARL HARBOR (July 12, 2022) - Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) departs Pearl Harbor to begin the at-sea phase of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022, July 12. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The worlds largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the worlds oceans. RIMPAC 2022 is the 28th exercise in the series that began in 1971.

Mount Suribachi, a volcanic crater on the small island of Iwo Jima, serves as the background for USS Juneau (LPD 10) as she prepares to take on AAVs from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit during Blue-Green Workups off the coast of Iwo Jima on March 15, 2001. JUNEAU, which is part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group, is off the coast to participate in the 56th Iwo Jima Commemoration. Blue-Green Workups are a series of training exercises designed to solidify the working relationship of Sailors and Marines during an Amphibious Ready Group deployment. PHILIPPINE SEA (June 24, 2022) Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65) conducts routine underway operations. Benfold is assigned to Commander, Task Force (CTF) 71/Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navys largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleets principal surface force.

PACIFIC OCEAN (Jan. 2, 2022) Sailors conduct a wash down aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Gridley (DDG 101). Gridley is part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, led by Carrier Strike Group 3, deployed from Everett, Dec. 30, in support of global maritime security operations. An integral part of U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. 3rd Fleet operates naval forces in the Indo-Pacific and provides the realistic, relevant training necessary to flawlessly execute our Navys role across the full spectrum of military operations - from combat operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Truman Carrier Strike Group, Sept. 9, 2022. Bainbridge conducted operations in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe area to defend U.S. and allied partner interests in the region.

Mitscher deployed to the European theater of operations and participated in a range of maritime activities in support of Naval Forces Europe and NATO Allies.
