In 1812, the Grimm brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm, published Children and Household Tales, a collection German fairy tales. This illustration accompanied the tale Trusty John. In this illustration are some of the treasures Trusty John tells the king to gather so he can win the princess for his bride. This image is from Grimms Eventyr (Grimm's Fairy Tales) by Carl Ewald, published in 1922. The frontispiece has the illustrations by Philip Grot Johann and R. Leinweber. The Submersion of Pharaoh's Army in the Red Sea 1510-1520 Italy. The grand scale of Titianís twelve-sheet woodcut (see 1957.12.1ñ12) mimics history paintings and large wall hangings. The assembled composition would fit only on a massive wall, a use confirmed by the total lack of early impressions. Only this 1549 state is known, printed from woodblocks studded with wormholes, which appear in the image as tiny white dots. The inscription at lower center of The Submersion describes the Israelitesí persecution under the Egyptian pharaoh and his armyís fate when they followed Moses into the Red Sea. The publisher opportunistically refers to the ìgreat and immortal handî of Titian in this legend, though the artist was still very much alive.. Woodcut in black on ivory laid paper . Titian

This bas relief fround at Koyunjik shows a kufa laden with stones, and manned by a crew of four men. It was drawn by Faucher-Gudin for Gaston Maspero's book on the History of Egypt. Behind the kufa may be seen a fisherman seated astride on an inflated skin with his fish-basket attached to his neck. A kufa is a round wicker basket, made of close willow work that has been coated with a bituminous substance found locally and making it waterproof, and was commonly found in the ancient area known as Mesopotamia. It is moved and steered with paddles. A kufa usually holds three to four people.
