YOKOSUKA, Japan (April 19, 2022) - Operations Specialist Seaman Jacob Dess, from West Palm Beach, Fla., removes damaged lagging foam from a pipe aboard U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) April 19, 2022 in Yokosuka, Japan. Lagging is used as thermal insulation for pipes and bulkheads inside the ship. Blue Ridge is the oldest operational ship in the Navy and, as 7th Fleet command ship, actively works to foster relationships with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

Carbine Williams invented the M-1 Carbine, which was the basic weapon for soldiers during WWII. He created the carbine while serving time in prison in NC on a moonshine charge. The prison warden allowed him to work on this project, and Carbine became famous for his invention. In the picture, he is at work in his gun shop near Fayetteville, NC, before the shop was moved near the Hall of History, in Raleigh. Douglas MacArthur once said, "Without Carbine's carbine, the US might not have won WWII."
