These two views of Saturn's moon Titan exemplify how NASA's Cassini spacecraft has revealed the surface of this fascinating world. Cassini carried several instruments to pierce the veil of hydrocarbon haze that enshrouds Titan. The mission's imaging cameras also have several spectral filters sensitive to specific wavelengths of infrared light that are able to make it through the haze to the surface and back into space. These spectral windows have enable the imaging cameras to map nearly the entire surface of Titan. In addition to Titan's surface, images from both the imaging cameras and VIMS have provided windows into the moon's ever-changing atmosphere, chronicling the appearance and movement of hazes and clouds over the years. A large, bright and feathery band of summer clouds can be seen arcing across high northern latitudes in the view at right. The trailing face of Jupiters inner satellite Io is shown in this photo taken by Voyager 1 on March 3, 1979, from a distance of 1.7 million miles. A bright yellow-orange equatorial band (lower left to upper right) separates the darker reddish-brown polar zones. The north pole is at upper left. Characteristic of Ios surface is the profusion of dark spots commonly surrounded by rings of brighter material. The smallest dark spot visible in this view is 30 kilometres wide; the largest, on the left is about 400 kilometres across. The large heart-shaped feature with a dark spot near its centre could be Ios equivalent of an impact basin such as Mare Orientale on the Moon.

JunoCam Image of Europa From Flyby. This view of Jupiter's icy moon Europa was captured by JunoCam, the public engagement camera aboard NASA's Juno spacecraft, during the mission's close flyby on Sept. 29, 2022. Citizen scientist Björn Jónsson processed the view to create this image. Jónsson processed the image to enhance the color and contrast. The resolution is about 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) per pixel. JunoCam took the image at an altitude of 945 miles (1,521 kilometers) above a region of the moon called Annwn Regio. In the image, terrain beside the day-night boundary is revealed to be rugged, with pits and troughs. Numerous bright and dark ridges and bands stretch across a fractured surface, revealing the tectonic stresses that the moon has endured over millennia. The circular dark feature at the lower right is Callanish Crater. JunoCam images of Europa help fill in gaps in the maps from images obtained during by NASA's Voyager and Galileo missions. The Soviet automatic station Luna-3 was the first to return images of the lunar far side on October 7, 1959. Signal acquisition was carried out in Crimea, Simeiz Observatory. Between 1965 and 1970 spacecraft Zond-4 - Zond-8 continued exploration of the Moon and obtained photographs from a distance of 1500 km and 9500 km. The first map of the lunar far sidewith hundreds of surface details identified by their reflection characteristics was based on collected materials. Full catalog of these details was included in the "Atlas of the far side of the Moon" (1960).

While photographing Mars, NASAs Hubble Space Telescope captured a cameo appearance of the tiny moon Phobos on its trek around the Red Planet. Discovered in 1877, the diminutive, potato-shaped moon is so small that it appears star-like in the Hubble pictures. Phobos orbits Mars in just 7 hours and 39 minutes, which is faster than Mars rotates. The moons orbit is very slowly shrinking, meaning it will eventually shatter under Mars gravitational pull, or crash onto the planet. Hubble took 13 separate exposures over 22 minutes to create a time-lapse video showing the moons orbital path.

4 JunoCam Views of Jovian Moon Io. This composite image of the Jovian moon Io was generated using data collected by the JunoCam imager aboard NASA's Juno spacecraft during four separate flybys. The resolution of the images gets progressively better as the distance between spacecraft and moon decreases with each flyby. The image of the moon on the far left has a resolution 44 miles (71 kilometers) per pixel. It was taken on April 9, 2022, during Juno's 41st orbit of Jupiter (perijove 41, or PJ41), when the spacecraft flew past Io at a distance of about 66,000 miles (106,000 kilometers). Note the gray, roughly triangular patch at the terminator near the moon's center. Citizen scientist Björn Jónsson created this image using data from JunoCam. The center-left image was acquired on July 5, 2022, during Juno's 43rd orbit of Jupiter (PJ43) at a distance of 53,000 miles (86,000 kilometers).
