Lazio Viterbo Ronciglione S. Maria della Pace1. Hutzel, Max 1960-1990 Post-medieval: Architecture, sculpture, ceiling and wall painting, crucifix, tabernacle. This church was started in 1581 and has been attributed to Vignola or Rainaldi. In the center of the main altar is a depiction of the Madonna of Peace, a fresco of the Viterbese school, dating to the 15th century. To each side of this central fresco are frescoes of S. Augustine and S. Bartholomew from the 17th century. Along the same wall as the altar are two more paintings, one, representing the Apparition of the Madonna to S. Francis of Sales by Sebastiano Conca, and the "Madonna del Suffragio", from the 18th century. A fresco of the Madonna of the Rosary is placed in a side altar, dating from the 16th century. In another side altar is placed a wooden crucifix of the 15th century, with an 18th century addition of the Madonna Addolorata at the foot of the cross. mains of the church serve as a somber reminder of the destructive forces of war. The interior of the church is extensively damaged, with collapsed ceiling, crumbling walls, and broken pews. This photograph was taken on May 12, 1919, by photographer Syl E.U. and depicts the aftermath of French artillery fire.

White-Robed Guanyin, late 1200s - early 1300s. Copy after Jueji Yongzhong (Chinese, active around 1300), Zhongfeng Mingben (Chinese, 1263-1323). Hanging scroll; ink and gold on silk; painting: 80.7 x 25.7 cm (31 3/4 x 10 1/8 in.); overall with knobs and cord: 168.2 x 44.5 cm (66 1/4 x 17 1/2 in.). The original model for this ink drawing of Guanyin, the bodhisattva of infinite compassion (Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit), is accession number 1978.47.1. This drawing is a later copy with the same image of the White-Robed Guanyin, but in reverse. The inscription above reads: one of the 84,000 painted by the priest Insei. The inscription seems to indicate that the Japanese priest Insei repeatedly copied the image of the bodhisattva in an act of piety and to accumulate merit, as is promised in the Lotus Sutra for anyone who paints images of the Buddha, they will achieve the Buddha path.” The priest’s name and seal need further study and identification.
