The food containers are located opposite the station, around 30 metres away. Every week, in summer and winter, a few volunteers spend an hour putting a selection of foodstuffs into the freezers and refrigerators inside the station, as requested by the cooks. Station technicians and scientists gather outside for a station evacuation drill. These twice-monthly drills are designed to test everyone's ability to hear the sirens and evacuate the station as quickly as possible. The station is equipped with a very large number of smoke detectors, relatively up to standard. Because in a resort like this, more than anywhere else, evacuation possibilities are very limited or non-existent during the winter. So the risk of fire must be reduced to an absolute minimum.
