Holed in the Bows -- The 24,000-ton P. and O. liner Chusan, damaged above the water line after her collision with the British merchant ship Prospector off Dover last night, is seen when it reached Tibury today.The liner - holed in the bows - was outward bound on a Mediterranean cruise when the collision occurred.No lives were lost.The Prospector, 6,000-tons, which was flooded in one of the holds, was towed into Dover. June 13, 1953.

Empress Of The Oceans - The 21,000-ton liner Southern Cross in her fitting-out berth at Belfast, where she is being prepared for her maiden voyage, a round-the-world service from Southampton, sailing on March 29th. Canada: November, 1969 The SS Manhattan, an oil tanker outfitted with an icebreaker bow, as she prepared to cross the Northwest Passage in the Arctic. The ship is 1005 feet long, and its beam was increased form 132 feet to 148 feet by the addition of a protective "ice belt" to guard against hull penetration by the icebergs encountered on the expedition. The icebreaking bow added 65 feet to her length.

Luggage Discharge From "Queen Elizabeth": Still Aground -- An aerial picture made today April 15 showing luggage being discharge from "Queen Elizabeth" down chutes into two tenders alongside, in an effort to move the giant liner. A tug captain said that the vessel bow had lifted about four feet since last night. Despite the efforts of sixteen tugs, the 83,673-ton Cunard-White Star Liner "Queen Elizabeth" is still on Bramble Bank outside Southampton harbour. The giant liner ran aground last evening returning from New York. Today, April 15, her luggage was discharge and thousands of gallons of fuel oil piped into tankers. April 15, 1947. Photograph of the North German Lloyd Liner 'Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse' at sea, 1900. This liner was built by the Vulcan Shipyards at Stettin with the aim of winning the Blue Riband. Launched in 1897, by the Kaiser himself, she made the Transatlantic run in 5 days and 20 hours in the same year to claim the title. She served the TransAtlantic run until 1914, when she was taken over by the German Navy as an auxiliary cruiser. In August of the same year, she was sunk after being attacked by HMS 'Hig

The Oriana Takes Shape -- The 40,000-ton liner Oriana, built by Vickers-Armstrong's for the orient Line at Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, is now fitting out for completion in the Autumn. She was launched by Princess Alexandra last November and will sail from Southampton on her maiden voyage to Australia on December 3rd. There are 1,600 British migrants on this ship, today steaming in the Indian Ocean towards Fremantle. An ex-M.L.A. on board says there is a crying need for a public relations man on the ship to talk about Australia and the life that lies ahead. But the Immigration Department says it can't afford one.
