U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers, primarily of the 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) and other units, begin a mountain run during tryouts for Edelweiss Raid 2023 on Sept. 10, 2022 in Stowe, Vermont. The 4.3 miles course ascends 2,564 feet, ending just under the summit of Vermont's highest peak, Mt. Mansfield. The Edelweiss Raid is an international, military competition designed to test the alpine skills of mountain soldiers. The event intends to challenge soldiers, foster camaraderie, and build relations between mountain warfighters across the world.

More than 7,000 attendees from off-base communities participated in fitness events alongside members of Team Yokota, including a 2-km kids and family run, 5-km run, and a half-marathon, during the event. Yokota hosts community events like this to help strengthen the enduring friendship and partnership shared between the U.S. and Japan.

Los Angeles Air Force Base held a remembrance event for National POW/MIA Recognition Day that began on Sept. 15 and ended on Sept. 16 with a 54 mile torch run and wreath laying ceremony. The torch lighting and run began at Terminal Island, California, and ended at the base. Various base and community organizations carried the torch while running relay legs. The Los Angeles Air Force Base honor guard presented the colors for the opening ceremony on Sept. 16, 2022. Col. Mia Walsh, Commander of Space Base Delta 3, hands the Most Miles Completed trophy to volunteers and the top runners.
