KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - In NASA Kennedy Space Centers Vehicle Assembly Building, a worker watches as external tank #120 is being lowered toward the floor of the building. It will be lowered to a horizontal position and placed on a transporter to wait for the return of the Pegasus barge from delivering tank #119 to Louisiana. In a few weeks, tank #120 will also be returned to NASAs Michoud Assembly Facility in Louisiana for routine testing and maintenance. This tank is the first of the newly designed tanks that were delivered to Kennedy. Previously stacked with Discovery, the tank has already gone through two tanking cycles during tanking tests but was replaced with tank #121 for Discoverys return to flight mission STS-114

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- At Space Launch Complex 576-E at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, the Poly Picosatellite Orbital Deployer, or P-POD, assembly is imaged wrapped in its thermal insulation blanket and sheeting and the attached Anodized gold aluminum bracket interface. The bracket is the connection point between the P-POD and the aft end of the Taurus rocket's third stage. The P-POD holds three CubeSats or tiny satellites, designed and created by university and college students that will be carried on the Taurus rocket along with the Glory spacecraft. The Orbital Sciences Corp. Taurus XL rocket will carry Glory into low Earth orbit. Once Glory reaches orbit, it will collect data on the properties of aerosols and black carbon. It also will help scientists understand how the sun's irradiance affects Earth's climate. Launch is scheduled for 5:09 a.m. EST Feb. 23. For information, visit www.nasa.gov/glory.

Various materials are ready for testing in the Kennedy Space Center's cryogenics test bed laboratory. The cryogenics laboratory is expanding to a larger test bed facility in order to offer research and development capabilities that will benefit projects originating from KSC, academia and private industry. Located in KSC's industrial area, the lab is equipped with a liquid nitrogen flow test area to test and evaluate cryogenic valves, flow-meters and other handling equipment in field conditions. A 6,000-gallon tank supplies liquid to low-flow and high-flow test sections. KSC engineers and scientists can also build system prototypes and then field test and analyze them with the center's unique equipment. Expanded cryogenic infrastructure will posture the Space Coast to support biological and medical researchers who use liquid nitrogen to preserve and store human and animal cells and to destroy cancer tissue using cryosurgery; hospitals that use superconductive magnets cooled in liquid he

Next to the artwork are recycled firing room windows from Kennedy's Launch Control Center. Launch controllers viewed every shuttle rollout and launch through those windows before they were repurposed. The environmentally friendly facility is slated to be NASA's second Platinum-rated by the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) certification system. It will be the space agency's first net-zero facility, which means it will produce enough energy onsite from renewable sources to offset what it requires to operate. The facility consists of a two-story admini
