Flounce for an Alb with Chinoiserie, anonymous, c. 1725 - c. 1735 Strip of natural needle side, Argentan side. Pattern with two interlocking symmetrical compositions. Both compositions show a Chinese man in a lotus position. In one composition he is under a canopy. In the other he sits on a vase and under a flower garland with a flower wreath. The fullwork is made with feston stitches and decorated with recesses. The motives are filled with a variety of decorative land and provided with relief contour lines. The large scales along the bottom come from the pattern. The top is finished with a border bobbin. A very fine support tissue has been put behind the strip. Argentan . Langwerpige sjaal van zwarte zijden machinale kant met wijnbladeren.Scarf from black machining, imitation of chantilly side. The thicker contour wires have been added by hand. Elongated rectangular model with a straight line of a repeating flower branch in midfield. There are three flowers and fanning ran leaf branches on the flower branch, which fill the midfield. Midfield is framed by long wavy and feathered leaves surrounded by a border with vine leaves interspersed with large exotic flowers. The sloping edge stems from the pattern with vine leaves.

Abstract Design, c. 1926. Gregory Brown (British, 1887-1941), Foxton, Ltd. (British). Hand block printed on linen; overall: 366.4 x 128.3 cm (144 1/4 x 50 1/2 in.). This textile reflects the abstracted patterning popular in Vienna before the First World War and persisting into the early 1920s. After its inclusion in the 1925 Paris exposition, this panel traveled with the subsequent exhibition of works from the fair and was acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art in 1926.

Strook zwarte kloskant met golvende staande takken.Strip of black silk climbing side, chantilly side. The pattern repeats itself and consists of wavy standing branches, which shown in the valleys of a pendulum and then rise far above it. The pendulum consists of a double pearl list filled with triple leaves and has wide valleys and narrow peaks, making it a kind of half cartouches. From the narrow peaks a long branch hangs straight down, ending in one flower. The sloping edge is formed by a wavy garland of co-switched rosette flowers and always one large depending clock flower from the wave top. The motifs are connected by a Maas soil. The full work is made in a cut-off and one type of ornamental soil has been used, to run the motifs thicker contour wires.

The field shows a menagerie of animals, including giraffes, leopards, monkeys, and birds. The borders have images of an alligator eating a snake alternating with a pouncing leopard. Panel of lace-patterned silk 1720s French In Le dessinateur, pour les fabriques detoffes dor, dargent et de soie, a manual for the silk designer published in 1765, one of the textile terms included is persienne. It is described as a weave structure with characteristics that correspond to those of many so-called lace-pattern silks of the 1720s. The principal feature of this fabric was, according to the author, Antoine Nicolas Joubert de lHiberderie, the juxtaposition of two contrasting foundation weaves—a dark or boldly colored satin weave and a white plain weave—that were augmented by brocading in additional colors of silk and possibly one or more metallic threads.¹ It is unclear in Le dessinateur whether persienne was a purely technical term or whether it also described a style. In addition to the technical definition given in the 1765 publication, evidence that persienne referred to a style as well as a structure is provided by labels inscribed on the drawings of such designs dat

Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room Stencil Designed 1893-1894 United States. The Chicago Stock Exchange building was one of Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivanís most distinctive commercial projects. The centerpiece of this 13-story structure was the trading roomóa dramatic, double-height space filled with Sullivanís lush ornament and the multicolored, stenciled wall covering seen here. After an unsuccessful preservation battle in the late 1960s, the building was demolished, but the Art Institute was able to acquire the monumental entry arch, now located in a garden next to the Modern Wing..
