When the two met at Teano , Italy, , on October 26, 1960, Garibaldi was the first person to hail Victor Emmanuel as king of a united Italy. The king made a triumphal entry into Naples on November 7, and Garibaldi sat beside him in the royal carriage. But immediately afterward the former dictator returned to Caprera, refusing all the rewards thrust on him.

Mahdist War (1881-1899). It faced the followers of Sudanese religious leader Muhammad Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Fahal, the self-proclaimed Mahdi, against Egyptian Khedivate troops, who were later joined by British forces. First Battle of El Teb (4 February 1884). Valentine Baker, commanding the military contingent that was coming to Tokar's aid, was defeated by an attack near El Bed during the march. The Egyptian soldiers, who were part of this contingent, were not used to marching in formation, moving forward en masse without any kind of discipline. When they reached near El Teb, they were attacked by Mahdi troops led by Osman Digna. Despite being superior in number and weapons, the troops panicked and fled. The Bordeaux Challenge. On December 1282 Charles of Anjou (1227-1285) challenged Peter III of Aragon (1240-1285) to a duel. A judgement of God would take place in Bordeaux on 1 June 1283 to settle the war for the throne of Sicily. One hundred knights would accompany each side, under the supervision of the King of England. Charles of Anjou believed that Peter III would not attend, so he would claim victory, or if he did, the French army of his nephew, King Philip III of France, would capture him. Peter III sensed the trap and went to Bordeaux on the eve of the appointed date, disguised as a squire.
