The State Bed Chamber, Stowe Buckinghamshire 1838 Joseph Nash This drawing preserves a lost interior at one of Englands grandest 18th century country houses built by Richard Grenville, 2nd Earl Temple (1711-1779) and his successor George Greville, Marquis of Buckingham (1753-1813). Completed in the 18th century, the lavish interiors survived only until 1848, when the overspending of the 1st and 2nd dukes of Buckingham, forced a sale of the contents. Joseph Nash sketched what was known as the State Bed Chamber around 1838. In 1848 the elaborate four-poster bed was moved to a room at the other end of the house to accommodate a visit by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and the room was renamed the Duchesss Drawing Room. Part of Stowe School today, it is known as the Garter Room after the star emblem at the center of the ceiling. Date: 1886.This drawing was made by Susan Alice Dashwood, a descendant of Sir James Dashwood (1715-1779), 2nd baronet, who built Kirtlington Park-a house whose elegant Rococo dining room is now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Here we see the library in 1886, still retaining its original ceiling and overmantle, with the latter surrounding a portrait of Elizabeth Spencer, the 2nd baronet's wife. At this date, the estate belonged to the artist's father, Sir William Henry Dashwood, 5th baronet (1815-1889), who is depicted reading by the fire. Museum: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA.

Date: 1820-30.This amateur watercolor records an interior in Dr. Samuel Parr's substantial parsonage at Hatton, where he lived for three decades and ran a small private school for boys. We are shown three women whose dress suggests a date in the 1820s. An inscription once attached to the frame notes that the carved chair behind the table "had been for many years used in the House of Commons," was moved during alterations, passed through several owners, then presented to Dr. Parr. The text also identifies sitters in the portrait prints on the walls as Dr. Parr, Princess Charlotte, Sir Samuel Romilly, Mr. Horner-Johnson, William? Office of Prince Metternich, -, 1829.

East Sutton Place Kent (parts of which dated back to the time of Henry VIII), was the family seat of Sir Edmund Filmer, Baronet and Member of Parliament. The Elizabethan intricately-carved walls and ceiling is reflected in the square design of the marble floor. The Elizabethan hall chairs, suits of armor and Oriental ceramics all probably close to the original Tudor scheme for the entrance hall. Date: 1844. The Rococo Revival desk is placed at right angles to the window to catch the light. The center table is covered with a rust-colored cloth bordered by a pattern in the oriental style, similar to that of the carpet. The folding chair placed against the rear wall is in the style of chair maker George Hunzinger. The ormolu-mounted, ebonized cabinet between the windows on the right holds precious ornaments. In front of the elaborate marble fireplace in the left hand corner is a fire screen inset with an embroidered panel featuring a white horse in parade regalia on a ground of brilliant green. The Blue Room, Schloss Fischbach, Friedrich Wilhelm Klose, German, 1804 - after 1863, Brush and watercolor, graphite on white paper, The Blue Room, most likely a dining room, is decorated in the Gothic Revival Style., A view of the beautiful countryside of Silesia is visible through the center window, with its stained glass upper transom, located in the seating alcove. The entrance to the alcove is hung with a blue-tasseled pelmet and white curtains. A religious painting, at left, is juxtaposed with flowers, plants, a desk, an etagere and a dining table, elements of a comfortable room in a country house. Both the green rug, bordered in a rose-flower pattern, and the central chandelier are influenced by Victorian decoration.
