Here a girl is placing a shell and cartridge in a machine which will pull them apart. The machine is surrounded by an eighteen-inch thick wall and is worked by remote control. In the mirror the man who works it standing by his levers.

Berlin's First Post-War Blast Furnace Opens - Part of the works showing a ladle being emptied into a casting pit.The first blast furnace since the end of the war put into operation in the bombed Borsig Steel works in the French sector of this divided city.The new steel plant will be able to produce between 2,000 and 2,500 tons of steel a month. Steel castings of 20 tons are also possible with new furnace - which is of the latest type in the world. Most of the castings will go to parts of West-Germany, and the rest of the output will be used to rebuild the Borsig plant and for forging steel for the reconstruction of Berlin. April 21, 1951.
