New Cunarder Will Sail From The Clyde On Her Maiden Voyage -- Because of the congestion caused at Liverpool by the seamen's and dockers' strikes, the new 22,000 tons Cunard liner Ivernia is to leave on her maiden voyage to Canada from the Clyde tomorrow (Friday) instead of sailing from Liverpool today. She will go from the Tail of the Bank, in the Clyde, the wartime anchorage of many troop ships, and her passengers will be taken out to her by tender.The Ivernia, similar in design to her sister ship the Saxonia - which joined the Cunard Atlantic fleet in September - has accommodation for 110 first class and 830 tourist class passengers. Royal Tour LinerThis photo shows the 15,902 -Ton liner SS Gothic, which will be used by the Queen and the duke of Edinburgh on their 1953/4 Commonwealth tour, Lying at king George V Dock, London, November 6, where it is taking on supplies and a cargo. The liner will pick up the Queen and duke at Jamaica on November 27. As they are making the first leg of the tour (London to Jamaica) by air.The liner will be used for the trip from Jamaica through the Panama canal to the Fiji islands, the Tonga islands, New Zealand, Australia, and on to Aden Across the Indian ocean.From Aden the remainder of the tour will consist of a flight to Malta and Gibraltar aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia. Newliner For Australian Run "Suevic" For Trials - The Shaw Saville which has now left Harland and Wolff's Belfast yards for trials. Launched in March the 13,900 ton vessel will carry a refrigerated cargo from Australia and N. Zealand to Britain. She is 561 feet long and powered by general turbines of 14,000 S.H.P. There are 1,600 British migrants on this ship, today steaming in the Indian Ocean towards Fremantle. An ex-M.L.A. on board says there is a crying need for a public relations man on the ship to talk about Australia and the life that lies ahead. But the Immigration Department says it can't afford one. May 16, 1948.

A "glut" of second-hand ships is preventing the sale of a 1,700-ton former war prize.It is the cargo ship Kamo, capable of carrying 76,400 cubic feet of cargo and a crew of 25.It is 215ft long and 34ft wide.Kamo was built in Germany as a submarine supply ship.It is the only one of its type in Australia.Captured during World War II, it was later sold by the Government.It is classified to carry cargo along the Australian coast for another three years. The Oriana Takes Shape - The 40,000-ton liner Oriana, built by Vickers-Armstrong's for the Orient Line at Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, is now fitting out for completion in the Autumn. She was launched by Princess Alexandra last November and will sail from Southampton on her maiden voyage to Australia on December 3rd.She has an all-welded aluminium superstructure and will cost some $14 million.Here is a stern view of the Oriana in the fitting-out basin at Barrow-in-Furness. Extreme right is Sir Douglas Ritchie, Vice-Chairman of the Port of London Authority. In foreground is the P.L.A.'s model of the 'Gothic' the ship in which the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are to sail to Australia and New Zealand.
