When Parisian designer Pierre Balmain's 33 latest creations reach Sydney's Shops the girls will find they need a new waistline. They have shin-length skirts, flower-like waists and generous, full-hipped skirts. Yesterday afternoon Balmain presented his new designs in a salon in David Jones' Marlborough-street workshop. They were made in a fortnight by the Australian workers. Balmain said their work was up to anything in Paris. September 28, 1948.

Blackout Accessories For Sale, Selfridge's, London, England, C 1940 A female sales assistant helps a customer to choose a blackout collar at Selfridge's department store in London. The various styles available were an attempt to make the functional collars a bit more fashionable. The collars would help to ensure that the wearer was a bit more visible to cars and other pedestrians in the blackout.

The British Reoccupation of Singapore Off-duty clothing on display in the women's department of the Officers' Shop in Raffles Place, Singapore. This shop catered for both male and female officers. For the men there was a tailors department and a barbers shop, whilst a hairdressing and manicure salon was available for the women. The women's clothing department sold ready made clothing, material for dressmaking, silk lingerie and stockings. The shop also had rest rooms where officers could socialize.
