Artist Rick Guidice Space Colonization - Bernal Sphere - The residential area is in the central sphere. Farming regions are in the 'tires.' Mirrors reflect sunlight into the habitat and farms. The large flat panels radiate away extra heat into space, and panels of solar cells provide electricity. Factories and docks for spaceships are at either end of the long central tube. The great nebula of Orion is ten light years wide : life forms could resemble those of Earth's early phases, with massive aquatic creatures. Date: 1943

S69-39011 (July 1969) --- TRW Incorporated's artist concept depicting the Apollo 11 Lunar Module (LM) descending to the surface of the moon. Inside the LM will be astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, commander, and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., lunar module pilot. Astronaut Michael Collins, command module pilot, will remain with the Command and Service Modules (CSM) in lunar orbit. TRW's LM descent engine will brake Apollo 11's descent to the lunar surface. The throttle-able rocket engine will be fired continuously the last 10 miles of the journey to the moon, slowing the LM to a speed of two miles per hour at touchdown. TRW Incorporated designed and built the unique engine at Redondo Beach, California under subcontract to the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, Bethpage, New York, the LM prime contractor.

Riding on A Sunbeam -- A sun-powered space ship will be necessary for the interplanetary travel of the future, a former German rocket scientist believes. Dr. Ernst Stuhlinger, now head of the missile section of the U.S. Redstone Research Arsenal in Alabama, Theorizes that chemical fuel cannot be used in trips to the far reaches of space because of it's great weight. He envisions a solar-powered space ship, with reflectors (white disks) beaming the sun's rays on steam boilers (black balls). This illustration dates to 1912. John Ross's ship Victory in the Arctic ice in Felix Harbour. John Ross and his nephew James Clark Ross endured four winters trapped in the Arctic ice on an expedition to find the elusive Northwest Passage. Their first winter was spent at Felix Harbour on the eastern tip of Boothia Felix (now known as the Boothia Peninsula). John Ross was knighted in 1834 following his return to England. The caption reads: The First Communication with Eskimos at Boothia Felix, January 1830. Sir John Ross's Expedition to the North Magnetic Pole, 1829-1833.
