Sounding Lead. An elongated four-plane buoy, by invention of A. Pécoul. This large buoy, furnished as a depth, has a wheel and recoil spring on the long point, which prevents the rope from falling back. The rope must be supplied with a lead, and as soon as the weight of the rope is because the lead touches the bottom, the recoil spring clamps the rope.
