Åmål station was opened in 1879. The station house was from the beginning a two -storey brick building. In the 1910s and 1930s, o were renovated o modernized the statation house. The first electric train arrives at the station. SJ D 202. The locomotive was manufactured in 1933 by ASEA. Scrapped in 1979 in Vislanda.

It is called the greatest achievement in railroading since the invention of the block signal. It was secretly tested in LA for six months.
