British Occupation of Java Wreckage of a road bridge that spanned a gorge on the northern road between Batavia and Bandoeng. Friday afternoon, October 22, 1948, the express train Batavia-Bandoeng is located at 4.50 pm two kilometers south of Poerwakarta, at Bendoel, because the rails had broken up through a gang terrorists over a distance of twenty meters. Immediately after the derailment, the train was taken under fire through the automatic weapons and guns, manned of an estimated fifty man, so that eight people were killed and wounded twenty-three.
