CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The high-fidelity space shuttle model is aboard the barge that will transport it from NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida to Johnson Space Center's visitor center in Houston. The model was built in Apopka, Fla., by Guard-Lee and installed at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in 1993.The model has been parked at the turn basin the past five months to allow the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to begin building a new facility to display space shuttle Atlantis in 2013.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - A tugboat pushes the Pegasus Barge through a drawbridge after leaving NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The 266-foot-long and 50-foot-wide barge will be towed by NASA's Freedom Star ship to deliver space shuttle main engine (SSME) ground support equipment to Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, Miss. Since being delivered to NASA in 1999, Pegasus sailed 41 times and transported 31 shuttle external fuel tanks from Michoud Assembly Facility near New Orleans to Kennedy. The barge is leaving Kennedy, perhaps for the final time. Both the barge and shuttle equipment will remain in storage until their specific future uses are determined. The SSMEs themselves will be transported to Stennis separately for use with the agency's new heavy-lift rocket, the Space Launch System. The work is part of the Space Shuttle Programs transition and retirement processing.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The right spent booster from space shuttle Atlantis' final launch is towed by the Liberty Star, one of NASA's solid rocket booster retrieval ships to Port Canaveral in Florida. The shuttle's two solid rocket booster casings and associated flight hardware are recovered in the Atlantic Ocean after every launch by Freedom Star and Liberty Star. The boosters impact the Atlantic about seven minutes after liftoff and the retrieval ships are stationed about 10 miles from the impact area at the time of splashdown. After the spent segments are processed, they will be transported to Utah, where they will be deserviced and stored, if needed. Atlantis began its final flight at 11:29 a.m. EDT on July 8 to deliver the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module packed with supplies and spare parts for the International Space Station. The Mariner cargo ship arrives at the Army Outpost wharf at Port Canaveral, Florida, near the Kennedy Space Center. Aboard is the United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V booster for the Orbital ATK CRS-7 commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The Pegasus barge containing the external fuel tank for space shuttle Endeavour's STS-126 mission to the International Space Station is towed by a tugboat from Port Canaveral, Fla., for its trip on the Banana River to the Launch Complex 39 Area at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. The tank will be offloaded at the turn basin near the Vehicle Assembly Building and transported to the VAB. There it will be lifted and lowered into a checkout cell. The STS-126 mission will deliver a Multi-Purpose Logistics Module to the International Space Station. Launch is targeted for Nov. 10.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The NASA Railroad hauls cars carrying the Ares I-X motor segments and nozzle exit cone over a river bridge to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The four reusable motor segments and the nozzle exit cone, manufactured by the Ares I first-stage prime contractor Alliant Techsystems Inc., or ATK, departed Utah March 12 on the seven-day, cross-country trip to Florida. The segments will be delivered to Kennedy's Rotation, Processing and Surge Facility for final processing and integration. The booster used for the Ares I-X launch is being modified by adding new forward structures and a fifth segment simulator. The motor is the final hardware needed for the rocket's upcoming test flight this summer. The stacking operations are scheduled to begin in the Vehicle Assembly Building in April.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Tugboats maneuver the Pegasus barge close to the dock in the turn basin near the Vehicle Assembly Building, or VAB, at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Pegasus, carrying the external tank 130, arrived in Florida after an ocean voyage towed by a solid rocket booster retrieval ship from NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility near New Orleans. The fuel tank will be offloaded and transported to the VAB. External tank 130 is the one designated for space shuttle Endeavour on the STS-127 mission targeted for launch on May 15.
