Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center Pearl Harbor fuel distribution system workers turn a valve to begin unpacking F76 marine diesel fuel during an unpacking operation onboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH), Hawaii, Oct. 27, 2022. The unpacking operation will remove approximately one million gallons of fuel from three primary fuel pipelines connecting the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) to fuel points on JBPHH. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica (AEE) inspect the Guajataca Dam after the passing of Hurricane Fiona. Guajataca Dam is one of the 37 dams around the Island. USACE and AEE are partners to ensure that structures such as the Guajataca Dam are monitored and inspected as a part of our overall Dam Safety program. Life safety is our number one priority.

Construction workers assist as a crane lifts the Core Stage Forward Skirt Umbilical up for installation on the mobile launcher tower at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mobile launcher tower will be equipped with a number of lines, called umbilicals that will connect to the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft for Exploration Mission-1 (EM-1). The CSFSU will be located at about the 180-foot level on the tower, above the liquid oxygen tank. The CSFSU is an umbilical that will swing into position to provide connections to the core stage forward skirt of the SLS rocket, and then swing away before launch. Its main purpose is to provide conditioned air/GN2 to the SLS core stage forward skirt cavity. The Ground Systems Development and Operations Program is overseeing installation of the umbilicals.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - Workers begin construction of the launch platform for the Project Morpheus lander at the midfield of the Shuttle Landing Facility, or SLF, at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida.Testing of the prototype lander has been ongoing at NASAs Johnson Space Center in Houston in preparation for its first free flight. The SLF will provide the lander with the kind of field necessary for realistic testing, complete with rocks, craters and hazards to avoid. Morpheus utilizes an autonomous landing and hazard avoidance technology, or ALHAT, payload that will allow it to navigate to clear landing sites amidst rocks, craters and other hazards during its descent. Engineers and operations/maintenance personnel with the Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) discuss the condition of the upstream gate on the John Day Dam navigation lock, located on the Columbia River near Rufus, Oregon, July 26 in between inspections of the gate after it malfunctioned due to a broken guide wheel. While the Corps works to fix the 215,000-pound vertical lift gate, its continuing to pass vessels through the lock using a floating bulkheada wall that can be moved in and out of place with a tugboat and essentially used as a temporary gate. Currently, vessel lockages, which typically take about 45 minutes, are taking twice as long. The guide wheels, two of which are attached to each side of the gate, act as rollers that keep the gate aligned as it moves up and down through its normal range of motion during lockages.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - In an area near S.R. 520 in Orange County, Florida, a worker ties a line to a steel beam that will be added to a tower being constructed for a Doppler weather radar facility for the 45th Weather Squadron. In the background is the radome that will be on top of the tower. The new site replaces one at Patrick Air Force Base. It will be used by NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the 45th Space Wing and their customers. The site will be able to monitor weather conditions directly above and surrounding the launch pads at Kennedy. The weather radar is essential in issuing lightning and other severe weather warnings and vital in evaluating lightning launch commit criteria. The new radar, replacing what was installed 25 years ago at Patrick Air Force Base, includes Doppler capability to detect winds and identify the type, size and number of precipitation particles.
