Coast Guard Has Tough Job. A cold and tough job is undertaken annually when U.S. Coast Guardsmen remove from ice covered waters the floating aids to navigation. The buoys are brought ashore to be repaired and repainted at Coast Guard depots. A Coast Guardsman, with only precarious footing, fastens a block and tackle hook to a buoy so the channel marker can be lifted aboard the Coast Guard tender.
